SPRING 2021

DURHAM & CHAPEL HILL, NC

THURSDAY, JUNE 10 – SUNDAY, JUNE 13

PLACE, RACE AND COMMUNITY

PLACE, RACE & COMMUNITY

Our Spring NTBA Roundtable will be as unique as the time we are living in.  While we hope to be near the end of our battle against the novel coronavirus, the discussion of race and its impact on American history and daily life remains at the top of everyone’s mind.  The location of our Roundtable will be the perfect place to discuss these national topics and see how we can shape the narrative through the built environment.

Like many medium size cities in America, Durham has gone through its ups and downs.  Over the past eight years downtown has seen an influx of energy and investment.  We will dive into certain projects and hear about their physical and emotional impact on downtown and Durham as a city.  Our list of speakers and tour hosts will bring a unique perspective.

We will begin with a mini charette with the planning director of Butner, a town adjacent to Durham with tremendous growth potential.  This mini charette gives NTBA members the chance to work together in a way not often seen outside of the roundtables.  The following day will be spent in Chapel Hill touring one of the finest examples of a matured New Urbanist project, Southern Village.  The developer, DR Bryan, still lives in the neighborhood and remains involved in the operation of the village center.  He will give a presentation on the history of the project and an update on how things are going now.

Saturday is spent digging into Durham history and tours of projects in town.

Our meeting will be held over June 10-13.  We look forward to seeing everyone and couldn’t be more excited. Register now for this great event and call our event hotel 21 C for your accommodations.

Roundtables are designed to bring together industry specialists and Town Builder members twice per year for the purpose of advancing the town building industry. Members gather to share best standards, expertise and insights generated from their town development work. Please note that Roundtables are member-only events.
