Community Design, Social Connectivity & Health
New Urbanism is natural for flourishing.
After years of claiming New Urbanism is conducive to neighborliness, happiness, good health, and longevity, the evidence is in hand. We will gather on September 24-27 on Amelia Island just north of Jacksonville, Florida to share that evidence and consider what we might do with it.
Presenters will include key researchers who will reveal the findings and conclusions of extensive work. Additional activities will include:
- The unique challenges of planning and permitting Amelia Park in 1992
- Impact of Baby Boom demographics on aging-in-place community strategies
- Preview of public policy that will incentivize moving care to the home
- Tour of San Marco neighborhood in Jacksonville, one of the last master plans of John Nolen (1925)
- Tour of Fernandina historic district, incorporated in 1824 and “Old Town” platted in 1811
- Tour of Amelia Park; and
- Plenty of good food.
